The first day started with early morning beach training at Waikiki Beach with @shintaro_nakano then it capped off with a Judo exchange at @hawaiikaikakujudo Mahalo to Sensei Rob @coach_rob_puahala for hosting the night.

9:00am to 11:00am - Judo exchange at Waiau Judo Club.

TAKATO Hawaii - Final Landing
December 21, 2024

Olympic Gold Medalist and 4X World Champion Takato Naohisa @takato_official, ended his first ever Hawaii Tour with a Masterclass at Leeward Judo Kapolei @leewardjudoclub.hawaii (Hawaii Tokai Campus). Leeward Judo Club members and a handful of invited guests were presented with a detailed session covering the fundamentals of competition Judo.

In attendance was Takato’s professional training partner Naoki Itami @naokitami. He is currently a professional trainer for Times/Park24 and a familiar face and friend of Leeward Judo Club.

Thank you to Sensei Randall Platt @sensei.ran for hosting this day. Thank you also to Sensei Everett Pavo @everettpavo for helping to arrange this meet-up.

We hope this has been a fun trip for Takato and Itami. It was for us!
We look forward to seeing them back again someday. Aloha!

He received a heartwarming welcome by the many participants eagerly awaiting his arrival.

Huge Mahalo to Professor Dwayne Fujitani @eighlas_daddy for hosting and gathering his Judo community to treat everyone to an ono local potluck lunch! Olympic level grinds!

The Takato @takato_official meet-up was a banging success! Hawaii’s Judokas were treated to incredible demonstrations and world-class technical instruction during a fun and friendly Hawaiian style Judo night.
We were honored to host his entire family to Hawaii for the first time too! His older two children hopped on the mat during randori to exchange throws and friendships with the local kids. His youngest child suited up for the first time and was able to get a first hand look at her amazing dad in action. I don’t think she realized her father was an international Superstar!

We were also treated to having his “Kodokan Cup Champion” wife, Shizuka, suit up for the first time in over a decade and take to the mats to randori with the youngsters.

Huge thanks goes to Naoki Itami @naokitami , professional Judoka from Times/Park24, for being Takato’s uke and providing his expertise throughout the tour.

Mahalo to the Hawaii Kaikaku @hawaiikaikakujudo crew for hosting. We learned, we laughed, we took a ton of pictures and got autographes! Let’s do it again!

With the spirit of the Olympics just around the corner, we are once again reminded of the goodwill of all Judo Senseis who dedicate their time to spread the beauty of Judo all over the world.

Thank you to Professor Keiji Suzuki for his generosity in taking the time in his busy schedule to invigorate the youth of Hawaii to continue their Judo journey. They were all inspired by his stories of perseverance. They learned that with amazing Judo power, comes the responsibility to have a kind heart.

We were all blessed to have witnessed firsthand a truly great Judoka. Thank you Suzuki Sensei.

Aloha Judo welcomes back Nakano Judo Academy to Hawaii for “Judo Wave 2023”!
The tour dates are December 21-23. He will be visiting Honolulu Judo Club on Thursday and Hawaii Tenri on Friday. His students will be capping off their tour at Keiji Suzuki’s Super Clinic on Saturday, December 23.

Judo Wave Day 3: We successfully wrapped up the dojo visits with a stop at Hawaii Kaikaku Judo Club @hawaiikaikakujudo . Nakano Sensei @nakano.judo.academy started the class off with a lesson in kuzushi, followed by a 1-hour open randori session.

Mahalo to Sensei Rob and his crew for hosting the final day. What a way to close out the year!
